Inspired by actual events, Dark Matter follows Chinese scientist, Liu Xing (Liu Ye) as he pursues his Ph.D in America. Initially reassured by the optimistic American Dream, Liu’s ambitions turn sour when he is overwhelmed by failure in his academic and love life. Refusing to return home and disappoint his parents, Liu frustrations grows increasingly bitter as the dishonored student prepares to lash out in one final act of terror.
